Working Holiday at Kurland Park Equestrian

Trails, Livery and Lessons

Mission

Our mission is to create enriching opportunities for individuals who are passionate about horses. Through our working holiday program, participants can immerse themselves in horse care, management, and the operation of our horse trail riding centre. We offer a unique blend of hands-on experience, education, and cultural exchange, all while contributing to the welfare of our horses in a beautiful environment where participants can deepen their equestrian knowledge and create lifelong memories.

Vision

We envision Kurland Park as a premier destination for equestrian enthusiasts seeking a working holiday in South Africa. We aspire to cultivate a vibrant community that brings together individuals from all walks of life, celebrating diversity and fostering a shared love for horses. Through this program, we aim to promote equine welfare, build lasting connections, and inspire a deeper appreciation for the equestrian lifestyle.

Working Holiday Goals

  • Offer educational and hands-on experiences in horse care, management, and trail riding.
  • Participants can stay for a minimum of 2 weeks and up to 3 months.
  • Work closely with a variety of horses and engage in the day-to-day operations of a trail riding centre and livery yard.
  • Receive guidance from experienced professionals while gaining practical skills in horse management and riding.
  • Enjoy opportunities to ride and experience some of the most stunning trails in South Africa, set against the backdrop of the majestic Tsitsikama mountain range.

Responsibilities

Participants will have a set schedule of daily tasks, working five days a week. These tasks include general horse care, stable maintenance, and supporting activities in the trail centre and livery yard.

Eligibility

  • Open to anyone 18 years and older.
  • No prior horse experience is necessary – beginners can use this as a chance to learn, while experienced individuals can further hone their skills.

Daily training will cover horse care, handling, grooming, and riding skills. Participants will also have opportunities to go on trail rides with guests and receive lessons in various disciplines such as Show jumping, Dressage, Equitation, and Natural Horsemanship. (Polo lessons available at an extra cost.)
